Your perfect prenatal supplement

Step away from the Elevit! Manufacturers may know how to market products but what they don’t know - is you!

As humans we gravitate towards products that we see often (advertisers count on this!). The reality, however, is that big brands often aim for the most affordable ingredients that are not as bioavailable, do not meet your daily requirements, and only cover the bare basics (i.e. they don’t include choline, and other vital nutrients). To complicate things more there are hundreds of prenatal supplements, and they are not all the same. For example, Elevit would not be the best option for a client with morning sickness, and Kin would not be optimal for someone that doesn’t eat eggs regularly. We can match you with the right supplement that meets your unique nutrient needs based on your medical conditions and usual diet.

What are some of the factors that influence my unique supplement needs?

  • Dietary Patterns

If you are vegan, plant-based, vegetarian, or just don’t like fish, seafood or meat you may need a higher dose supplement than the average population to reach optimal targets.

  • Test results

Iodine, Vitamin D, B12 and iron are some of the common deficiencies we see. This is not surprising as 20% of Australian women are iron deficient and 25% are Vit D deficient.

  • You're pregnant

Your nutrient requirements change significantly each trimester. A trained fertility dietitian will ensure you are well nourished and comfortable to avoid nutrient deficiencies, and pesky symptoms such as constipation and nausea.

  • Gut Health

An imbalance of gut bacteria can effect fertility, pregnancy and your babies future health. Some bacteria cause an excess of oestrogen, others increase the absorption of iron, and others effect your babies brain development.

  • Genes

Approximately 40% of Australians have an MTHFR gene mutation which means they are at greater risk of miscarriage, and other complications, as they don’t metabolise the folic acid found in common pharmacy supplements.

  • Weight

Women with a BMI over 30 often need additional folic acid to support a healthy pregnancy.

  • Medical History

PCOS, Endometriosis, diabetes, coeliac disease and thyroid abnormalities are just a few of the common conditions we see that require a different supplement prescription than the general population. For example women with Coeliac disease, Crohn’s Disease, Ulcerative Colitis, or those who have undergone weight loss surgery require 10 x more folic acid than the rest of the population.

  • Other factors

There are a lot more factors that may influence your requirements from uterine lining issues, implantation to IVF and sperm health. We know a lot about fertility and pregnancy- and we’ve got you covered!

How do we match you to the right supplement?

  • Your 1:1 Consultation

During your appointment, we will go through an extensive case history to determine an overview of your current health; including medical history, gut health, genetics, nutritional status, dietary analysis, and lifestyle factors. We will interpret your recent tests or bloodwork. Generic lab-work reference ranges are quite wide, and do not reflect the ranges recent research states we need for optimal fertility, and pregnancy. We will look at your results with a trained eye and ensure nothing is missed.

  • Your unique prescription

At the end of your express supplement appointment, an individual treatment plan including a prescription, and recommendations will be formulated and emailed to you. This will include recommended products, dosages, and when to take them in the day. These will be delivered to your door. We will also give you a summary showing the percentage of your requirements met by each supplement so that you can rest easy knowing you have this side of your fertility or pregnancy journey covered.

  • Aftercare and follow-up

We may request further investigations and pathology tests - such as general pathology, or where necessary microbiome or allergy testing. If a supplement manufacturer’s stocks are ever running low we can send through an alternative prescription to cover you in the meantime. Follow-up consultations will be scheduled depending on your unique journey.

Why can’t I get most of my nutrients from food?

Around two-thirds of Australia’s agricultural farm land is effected by acidification, salination, contamination, and depletion of nutrients and organic matter. Therefore, our food has significantly less nutrients than ever before. Iron, iodine, B12, Vitamin D, calcium, and zinc are common deficiencies we see time and time again. In fact, a recent study in 2020 found that only 4 Out Of 534 Australian women met nutrient targets for folate, calcium, iron, and zinc.
